I don’t show my face, I don’t try to be seen. I just write when the silence gets too loud. Some nights I sit on the floor with my heels still on, trying to forget how long I have been waiting. I don’t talk much about what I want. But sometimes, other women come. They feel like me, quiet, feminine, almost invisible. Some of them let me take their photo. It never feels planned, it just happens. You won’t see them again. They don’t stay. But for a moment, they let you see them. Maybe that’s all we are ever trying to do, show someone how we look when no one’s watching. I write when I can't sleep. Sometimes the other women come to meet me.
